Meh. You can complain about freedom of speech or whatever, but in the end, this is all in the EULA, and the name clearly violated one of the rules. There's nothing more to discuss there.

There's difference of opinion and blatant offense. Different people take offense for different things, usually by religious/cultural upbringing, and given I studied languages and cultures of different countries, I can see why. I try to watch it in general, I don't wanna end up offending people by mistake O_o. But I can have a difference of opinion with someone without sounding offending at all.

And yes, I'm curious as why people find some things offensive and some others don't (within the same/similar culture, or not). It's really interesting to me.

I think the OP's "brother" was banned because the name blatently bipassed the language filter. Pe0ple who ty_pe lik thi_s or mispill stu_ff to avoid language filters usually get banned (since azz is obviously a mispell of a banned word).

Guild Wars is full of attention starved 13 year olds with nothing better to do than come up with names like these.

I say let their intellectual deficiency shine bright and let them keep their names, this at least helps me decide who NOT to group with...

So many people have been reported for stupid reasons me included. I was once reported for selling an item in local chat instead of sell chat. After I realized that I was in the wrong chat I switched to the right chat. And some guy still reported me. To me I dont think it matters what color the text is in the textbox. People just don't know what to do with their time besides try and deprive others of anything.

Haha punk azz monk is nothing.

I have a necro named asslicker almighty, a ranger called the japslapper, and an ele called the mtha fkin cripz ( my friend named him that and I thought wth).

I'm editing this because I know someone's gonna tell me how immature I am, but cmon it's funny. Yes I'm immature for thinking that's funny. It may be a bit on the rascist side though..... Btw with all these prudey people around I'm probably not gonna do much communicating. Thanks chik, btw you're an ass I'm sorry I'm not usually rude but farming for bad names is pretty lame. I hope I never run into a prude like you.

How is making fun of a made up, non-existent character offensive?

On one hand, why would people get offended by names like "Punk Azz monk", and "God iza noobcake"? How sad is that?

On the other, why would anyone make a character with that kind of name? How sad is that?

Yes, the same two questions to the issues.

The discussion on whether God exists should be taken elsewhere.

Don't report, don't make stupid names. IMHO.

Freedom of speech is overrated. Far too many people abuse or misuse it.

The only place where Freedom of Speech is mentioned is the first Amendment of the U.S. constitution, and it says:

Quote:
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
All it says is that the U.S. Government can't challenge someones right to free speech. No where is there a law that says that a private party cannot abridge your freedom of speech while you are on their property. Ergo, Arenanet can abridge your freedom of speech all they want, and in this case I have to admit I support them.

Operative is correct. A.net can do whatever they want.

Lets be perfectly clear. Language about genetalia, sex, drug use, or racism should be banned. This game is rated "T for Teen" after all. If you don't agree with that... well call be a prude all you want. I'm happy with my maturity.

Really there is a difference? I thought expressing your opinion, is expressing your personal belief and judgment. But of course you can have a difference of opinion without sounding negative at all, politicians do it so well! However, people will take offense nor the matter on how sugar coating it has.

But if you want free speech, you just can't take the topping of the cake, you gotta have it all.

You are offended by an non-existing character in a game but you believe in a spiritual being that can't be proved or disproved.

Whoa...

His name was rather blatant. Part of him had to know he would get a ban eventually when the filter didnt allow ass and he went around it with azz. I had a char banned long ago for the name yuk foo. That was reaching just a tad on anets part.

I want to say that, it's not 13 year olds doing thing. It's usually of the age of 20 or higher, so please stop slandering against the younger of our generation for things they are not really doing.

Also, to a lot of people who are religious, it's of extreme importance to them, so calling their Father something like noobcake, might hold a slight offense. However, it doesn't offend me, because I am of the know how that He isn't a noobcake.

But this isn't a place for discussion of religion so I'm going to leave it at that. I think people should just stop trying to be rebels and name their characters things people might take offense too. Yeah I know a lot of people report to feel high and mighty, but you just have to think to yourself..it's a game and what they're feeling high and mighty over means nothing.
